I found this pretty inspirational. I grew up listening to delirious,
and i've had the priviledge of sharing a stage with them. i can
honestly say that martin smith and stu guerrard are two of my biggest
influences, musicially and spiritually. this journal entry is a perfect
example of why i respect the guy... i only hope i have the same
attitude when i've been on the road for 10 years.

These
family trips are exhilarating, tiring and extraordinary in every
aspect. From the minute Ruby our 11 month old is awake we are full pelt
again till midnight, making baby bottles, kids toilet trips, sound
checks, meeting new people, checking emails, washing underwear, seeing
God in the most amazing ways and in the most unusual places. (on the
maid of the mist boat under niagra falls!)
Today
we're in Owensboro Kentucky playing for the local crowd. Every day is
different on this tour, one minute its 50000 people in Detroit and the
next 600 people in the function room of a hotel.
It
was a great night, real American people who showed their appreciation
and wouldn't let us leave the stage. Thanks to the guy who lent me his
hat it made me look cool for a second there.
It's
strange, I'm back on the bus and my wife is crawled up next to me. So
much of our lives are spent apart, so this is an amazing privilege to
have her here and the kids too all asleep in their bunks.
What
makes today even more special is that it's come to our attention that
it's our 10th anniversary of leaving our jobs and doing the band full
time. God has never let us down even though at times we have had our
mountains to climb and the future looked bleak. In that time we have
played to huge amounts of people had 4 top twenty singles, had
loads of children, met some amazing people and seen God display his
love and grace in the most remarkable ways.
I've
always said that we're only just beginning and I still believe that.
This year takes us to South America for the first time and many other
new countries, the gates of China are opening too.
I
love what I do, it's a huge privilege, not just to be in a great band
with your 4 best friends but more that there is a higher purpose to it
all. To use your gift for God is the thing that keeps you happy, to be
in the right place and know that there's a chance of bringing even just
a crumb of comfort through the music is what keeps your chin up.
Thanks
to everyone who has supported us through this decade, some of you we
know and love but most of you we will never know but still love for all
of your prayers that keep it on track.
Here's to the next 10 whatever it may look like,
Kind regards, Martin
